MWP&S acquires the CPA practice of Mary Ellen Lewis. The firm
also acquires a second generation word processor to serve our smaller
business clients and begins publication of our Current Interest
Newsletter, a bi-monthly client publication.
1981
The first combined partner and senior staff planning retreat is
held at Coto de Caza, California where Management Consultant, Donald
J. Jenkins assists the partners in long-range planning and goal
setting.
1982
Sue Applegate becomes a partner of the firm and the firm changes
its name to Martin Werbelow & Co. The firm joins the Western
Association of Accounting Firms (WAAF), an association of large
local firms as well as the PCPS section of the AICPA Division for
Firms and completes our first administrative review by independent
WAAF reviewers.
1983
Wilmer Pyle retires as partner of the firm on June 30th and Jim
Schlinger retires on December 31st. Martin Werbelow adds to their
computer capabilities and purchases 8 microcomputers for client
accounting, projections, and tax planning.
1984
Martin Werbelow successfully completes its first tax season using
“in house” income tax preparation technology. The firm
also successfully completes its first AICPA Audit and Accounting
Peer Review and receives an unqualified opinion.
1985
Martin Werbelow completes our three year WAAF administrative review.
1986
After being located at 747 E. Green Street for 18 years, the firm
moves to its new office location at 100 S. Los Robles where they
occupy 10,000 square feet of the 6th floor. This is the 5th location
of the firm since it was founded in 1952.
1987
Martin Werbelow and Co. is recognized by the CPA Digest as one of
the distinguished CPA Firms in North America for 1987. This achievement
is reported in various industry publications.
1988
The firm receives another unqualified opinion from the AICPA as
part of the Peer Review program. Also as part of increasing technologies
and in order to better serve our clients, Martin Werbelow purchases
its first fax machine.
1989
Founding partner Buzz Martin and partner Doug Blensly officially
retire as partners of the firm on March 31st. David Beringer is
admitted as a partner.
