From the day of its founding in 1952, Martin Werbelow has always been growth oriented. Over the years, the firm has continued to evolve and grow with the Pasadena community in which its success is so closely connected. The following timeline takes a look back at over 50 years of existence and some of the important milestones.

1970
Min Higa admitted as a partner of the firm.

1972
David Werbelow is named Managing Partner of the firm, taking over the responsibility previously held by Buzz Martin. Roland Kuppinger retires as a partner of the firm.

1973
Wilmer Pyle, Jim Schlinger, and Joe Goddard, CPA’s merge their firm into Howell and Martin and become partners. The firm’s name is changed to Martin, Werbelow, Pyle and Schlinger. Doug Blensly and Min Higa become partners of the firm.

1974
The firm expands its office facilities from the first to the fourth floor of the Green Street building. MWP&S buy their first word processor.

1977
The firm purchases its first computer system, an IBM System 32, for internal record keeping and client accounting at a cost of $54,000. As a result, the firm’s first Data Processing Department is formed.

1978
Steve Boyer and Pete Hidas are admitted as partners and Joe Goddard retires. Also during this year, MWP&S acquire the CPA practice of John F. Guiltinan. The firm institutes a variety of seminars and conferences for the benefit of clients and friends of the firm.

1979
The firms first partner retreat is held in Lake Arrowhead, California. Due to continuing growth, the firm leases additional space back on the first floor of the Green Street building increasing its total leasing space to 8600 square feet.

Events of 1974
Patricia Hearst, 19-year-old daughter of publisher Randolph Hearst, is kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army; The Sting wins the Academy Award for Best Picture.
